5 Tips to Elevate Online Learning for Tutors

The pandemic is sweeping the world with losses. It has let people to lose both lives and livelihood.

All sectors feel the impact, most especially those in education. Since the pandemic, classes cannot resume in some countries due to COVID-19.

Many primary and secondary school tuition institutes are making tough choices. All for the safety and wellness of their students. This includes suspending graduation ceremonies and switching to online classes.

Of course, when it comes to online education, tutors have to step up their A-game.  Most especially since not every student can adapt well to online learning.

Here are a few tips to fire up your online primary school tuition module:

  1. Keep the Lecture Short and Concise

Online modules must be simple and clear. Avoid using jargon when discussing any topic: be it math, science, English, or Chinese. E-learning is all about getting to the point, where your students won’t have any questions to raise.

Or better yet, create separate slides explaining the difficult points of your discussion. Going the extra mile can make a difference in a student’s learning process. Most especially those who aren’t active self-learners and prefer face-to-face discussion.

  1. Make it Interactive

Some online platforms allow fun, interactive learning games. Try Kahoot! for instance, you can customize a quiz with questions about your previous lecture.

For a more comprehensive and statistical option, you can create online quizzes. Google and Edmodo allow tests on a timer to measure your student’s grasp on the subject.

Interacting with your students, even on the web, is still important. It contributes to a professional, classroom atmosphere, and boosts morale. After all, we’re still aiming to keep our students in a good state of mind.

  1. Create Visually-Appealing Slides

There are hundreds to thousands of deck templates available online. Choose the one which suits your module and make it as appealing as possible.

The captivating graphics will keep eyes wide open rather than have eyeballs glazing over your deck. Plus, this benefits visual students and makes it easier to memorize.

  1. Record Each Session

It’s always a great idea to record each lecture you conduct for future reference. You can go back and point out mistakes and improvements on your end. You can smoothen out any creases for a better lecture session in the following days.

And if you have a student who missed the session, you can always send the recorded lecture for them to catch up with the subject.

  1. Practice Your Lecture Beforehand

Apart from recording your sessions, you should also practice it out before it begins. It pays to discuss the module in front of a mirror since you’ll see how your facial expression would look.

Maintain a pleasant appearance and friendly demeanor for each student to feel included. It’s something that’s difficult to do when you’re conducting an online class.

At Frankel Tutors, we value quality education. We go beyond the usual online learning techniques to connect with our students. Our goal is to continue being the same efficient tuition center in Singapore – from a safe distance.
